Description :
Devi have so far recorded two times in the studio…One directly after I had moved from location #1 to #2 which meant that I think they were a bit surprised to see this building site of a studio that they were supposed to be creative in. Between takes I would be walking down to the first Studio to pick up cables, plugs and headphones.

The first recording was done more or less over two weekends and some additional nights and was very spontaneous fun and interesting. Coming from more of a Punk background than I I think it was really interesting to try to find some middleground and to get to understand each other. Nicklas is an old school friend of Magnus Eriksson ( Clockwork drummer ) and heard about Roth Händle that way. They had previously done some recordings on a Cassette porta studio and liked the idea ( I hope ) of multichannel recordings.

The second round of recordings was more organized. Better rehearsed and with a better understanding of the possibilities of the studio the recording actually took a bit longer to do. Also the band had decided to record some of their slower material which I actually like more which also left more room for experimentation.

We really tried to find the best sound for every part and section sometimes recording up to three different sounds or alternatives that might be layered on top of eachother or panned. This was also done with guitars. Nicklas main guitar is ( or used to be…it was stolen from their rehearsal room a couple of weeks back ) a Fender Telecaster that sounds great but a lot of the time we used the Tele for ” real ” guitar parts like distorted chords et.c and then used my crappy mailorder guitars for special effect sounds or riffs to get different dynamics within the guitar lines.

One real cool thing about the band is that every member in the band went to Adolf Fredriks musicschool which means they all can sing and are really great harmony singers. So the material has a real uniqueness to it due to the fact that they can play a really punky verse and then have a beautiful three part vocal harmony thing going on in the chorus. A lot of dynamics and diversity makes Devi a really cool and exciting band both live and in the studio. You never really know where the song might end up.

Eating habits :
Devi is a band that cares of themselves. Lunchbox people with great Salads with fresh fruit for desert. They make my Noodle-dinners look extremely dull…
